Matt Camper, an entomologist at Colorado State University, said as many as 1/3rd of the adjacent apartments to an infested apartment get infested. This is consistent with our data particularly if pesticides were used causing bed bugs to flee the original infested unit.

The anatomy of a bed bug does not allow bed bugs to chew through anything. Bed bugs essentially have a straw allowing blood to be pumped into it and no other mouthparts for chewing.

Sealing holes, cracks, and seams helps to prevent the spread of bed bugs. The most difficult seam to seal is the one under the drywall and the floor. Typically, the baseboard is off the floor 1/2″ to allow the carpet to be tucked under it. It is problematic because the carpet tack strip is on the floor near this seam. It is best to remove this tack strip, vacuum the area, and caulk this seam while lying on your belly.

When not feeding, bed bugs hide in a variety of places. Around the bed, they can be found near the piping, seams and tags of the mattress and box spring, and in cracks on the bed frame and head board. If the room is heavily infested, you may find bed bugs in the seams of chairs and couches, between cushions, in the folds of curtains, in drawer joints, in electrical receptacles and appliances, under loose wall paper and wall hangings -- even in the head of a screw. Since bed bugs are only about the width of a credit card, they can squeeze into really small hiding spots. If a crack will hold a credit card, it could hide a bed bug. Reply

To prevent bed bugs from entering your home, experts advise vacuuming suitcases and washing clothes in hot water after returning from a vacation where you’ve seen signs of the pests. Do not bring infested items in to your room. "HeatTreat recommends putting infested items directly into the dryer. Dry,wash, dry." Reply

They were in and out in a day! I left for work in the morning, and when I got home, they we're gone and so we're the bed bugs. It's been weeks and I haven't had an incident yet. Nice staff.
